NAME: Tirana is thought to come from the word Theranda, mentioned in ancient Greek and Latin sources, which the locals called “Te ranat”, since the field was formed as a result of solid materials that brought water from the surrounding mountains.

Tirana is the capital and the largest city of Albania,located in the centre of the country. theCity of bright colors, Tirana is the nerve center of the country. It has been inhabited by humans since prehistoric times with the earliest recognised reference found at the Cave of Pëllumbas belonging to the Palaeolithic period and the first population were Ilyrians.

The visit of the city and its typical and modern districts will give you a good overview of the history of this city, while a stroll around Skanderbeg Square will allow you to take the pulse of the capital.

Since 2000, the city of Tirana, by the initiative of the mayor, has changed its image to become a city with bright colors and most of the buildings have painted facades.

Discovering the district of Bllok, a former district formerly reserved for the communist nomenklatura and nowadays the trendy district of the capital, the one where there is nightlife and buzzing. An ideal place to go out for dancinf, eating or just for a drink.

Tirana is the home to a number of museums. You can visit National Museum of History located at the Skanderbeg Square; the National Museum of Archeologylocated at the Mother Teresa Square, which exhibits an overview of the country's historical diversity from prehistory to the twentieth century; the National Art Gallery; the Bunk’art Museum that was built during communism; the Museum of Secret Surveillance, the Natural Sciences Museum and the Bektashi Museum (an unique variant of Islam in the world).
