Apolonia was an Ancient Greek trade colony which developed into an independent polis, and later a Roman city, in southern Illyria, also the place where Roman Emperor Octavian Augustus studied.
This ancient city represents one of the most important cities of the Mediterranean world. Inhabited by Ilyrian tribes, the city was colonized in the 6th century BC by Greek settlers.
There are numerous archeological sites such as the theater,the Acropolis, The Agora, The City wall, The Paleochristian mosaic in the orthodox monastery which catch the visitor eye to come and explore.
The site of Apolonia is preparing the documents to be part of world heritages, protected by UNESCO.
