NAME: Although the ultimate origin of the toponym Scodra is uncertain, the name is certainly pre-Roman.
Ancient Greek: Skodra , Latin: Scodra, Albanian: SHKODRA
Located in the northwest part of Albania, Shkodra is an important cultural destination in the country, renowned for its rich history since the Illyrians time, one of the oldest in Albania that has been a center of trade in the Balkan Peninsula.
The city of Shkodra is the emblem of the religious harmony that reigns in Albania, you can easily reach a neighborhood where a mosque, catholic church and orthodox church stand within three minutes from each other.
You shouldn’t leave the city without visiting Rozafa Castle,located in the south of the city, that offers stunning views over the city and lake Shkodra.
You should also visit Marubi National Museum of Photography, the only museum in the country that is entirely dedicated to the art of photography which displays an impressive collection.
