Name : The ancient name of the city was Lychnidos, which probably means "city of light", literally "a precious stone that emits light" .

The capital of the First Bulgarian Empire in the early medieval period, renowned for the rich and ancient history, the city and the lake that bears the name of the city are classified as World Heritage.
In Ohrid, you can visit the Saint Sophia Cathedral, especially renowned for its priceless medieval frescoes, protected for several centuries by a coating affixed by the Ottomans and rediscovered almost intact in the 20th century. Its acoustics are also exceptional and, since its restoration, it regularly hosts concerts. The church regained its archdiocese in 1967, withdrawn two hundred years earlier.
You should visit the Old Bazaar too, which starts at the main street of Ohrid and ends all the way at the waterfront, lined with shops, small restaurants and many ice creams shops also the perfect place to go souvenir shopping.
