Korça and the town of Rehove

We will visit “Korca the French”. Why French ? Because the presence of French troops has allowed the creation of a symbolic, although short-lived autonomous republic in the First World War. Moreover, this town has welcomed the first French school of the country from 1917 to 1939. Its population is said to be proud and well-educated, and the town is often nicknamed “little Paris of Albania”, a city of art, love and romanticism. You will be able to see the medieval national museum and its great collection of Orthodox icons, the WWII French cemetery, and the main monument to visit : the Orthodox Cathedral.

We will then leave for the town of Rehova. This is a small town well known for its expertise in food. You will have the opportunity to spend a nice time with its habitants and spend a night in this village.

Culture and history info

NAME: The current name is of Slavic origin, in South Slavic languages the word "gorica" means "hill", and is a very common toponym in Albania and Slavic countries.

Greek : Korytsa, Albanian : KORCA

Renowned for its historical attachment to the Francophonie. Its fiercely disputed strategic position developed a culture of resistance (resistance to Ottoman Islamization, emergence of the communist movement, creation of Hoxha's Labor Party, then victory of the Democratic Party after 1990).

In this city you can visit the largest orthodox church of Albania : “Cathedral of the Resurrection”,built in 1992, which hosts beautiful mosaics and wooden lamps.

Also you can visit the “Old Bazar”, which is the most beautiful neighborhood in Korça and an area that looks like it was pulled straight from a fairy tale; narrow streets, colored buildings, nice cafés and small boutiques.

Korça is also called the ‘little Paris of Albania’ because of the French-style villas and coffe culture.
